Bama-Latino Nursing Program targets Hispanic Nurses
WTVM-ABC (Columbus, Georgia) – July 5
The Capstone College of Nursing at The University of Alabama wants to help increase the diversity of the state’s nursing workforce. The program called “Bama-Latino” is designed to educated 80 Latino nurses over the next four years. School officials say associate degree nurses can get their bachelor’s with most of their tuition paid for.

Fashion student wins contest to market UA shirt

A University of Alabama fashion retailing student from Marshall County is living the dream of marketing her very own Crimson Tide shirt. McKenna Siebert participated in a fashion design contest her senior year at Alabama. But she never dreamed she’s get a call saying she made the top four until a call from New York-based retailer Robin Ruth.

Santa Rosa Beach students receiving degrees were Alexandra Bakane, bachelor of science in human environmental sciences; Aubrey Del Rio, bachelor of arts in communication & information sciences; and Abigail Tecza, bachelor of arts in communication & information sciences.

A mournful song began in the slave fields of the South more than 150 years ago. That song slowly evolved into today’s blues music. The songs sung by slaves as they worked the fields or played music in camps at night formed the foundation of the vibrant music sung and played today by generations of blues musicians … The Alabama Blues Project in partnership with the University of Alabama is presenting the Alabama Blues Weekend at the Bryant Conference Center on Friday and Saturday. The event will feature mentors from the UA and from the blues community who will help develop an interest in blues music in young people.

Local graduate represents state at Girls Nation

Kate Fountain, a recent high school graduate, had the honor of representing Alabama at the nation’s capital during Girls Nation. She was selected out of about 370 candidates who attended Girls State, and was honored to be one of only two selected to travel to Washington D.C. While there, Fountain said they got a behind-the-scenes look at how our federal government does business, how legislation is created and even got to create their own versions of potential legislation. Fountain said the experience opened her eyes to a whole new world and even convinced her to pursue a career in politics after she graduates from University of Alabama.

Slip a fresh $20 bill under the bulletproof teller window of Donnie Anderson’s Medex marijuana dispensary on Century Boulevard — perhaps for a gram of cannabis or some THC-infused toffees — and the legal tender is transformed into something else: drug money … “The FDIC could step in and shut down a bank, and it can do that with very little notice,” said Julie Hill, a law professor at the University of Alabama and former finance industry attorney who has studied cannabis banking. “Nobody’s ever gotten their bank brought back to life after it’s been closed by regulators.”
