Monthly Safety Reminder: How UA Communicates During an Emergency

On the first Wednesday of each month (unless inclement weather is expected), the University tests its emergency notification systems, including UA Alerts, the public address system and digital signage. In addition to notification tests, the University provides monthly safety tips and information to help the UA community be prepared in different types of emergency situations. This month’s topic is how UA will communicate with you during an emergency.

If an emergency or dangerous situation is reported on campus, UA will use one or more of the following communications methods:

  • UA Alerts, which can simultaneously deploy SMS text messages, emails and phone calls to your cellphone, office phone and home phone
  • The campus PA system, which is located in academic buildings and residence hall, and outdoors around the campus
  • Emails sent to students and employees
  • Information displayed on the UA home page
  • Information displayed on digital signage across campus
  • Information displayed on the marquees on Crimson Ride buses
  • UA’s official social media accounts, including Facebook and Twitter

When the emergency or dangerous situation is resolved, you will be notified by some or all of these same methods. Updated information will always be posted on the UA home page.

To make sure you will always receive information about emergency situations on campus, including severe weather, download the new UA Safety App for IOS and Android devices.

Also, remember to always keep your contact information updated in myBama. Instructions on updating your contact information can be found here.
