UA Libraries Completes Journal and Database Review

University Libraries has reviewed current journal and database subscriptions based on cost per use, subscription cost and support for academic programs. A number of subscriptions will be canceled at the end of the subscription period, generally the calendar year.

cancellation list has been prepared. Several of these titles have alternative access points which are listed on the LibGuide outlining the project.

Additionally, requests for articles may be made through InterLibrary loan. Since University Libraries participates in RapidILL, journal articles are available to a user’s desktop within 24 hours of a request, usually within 4 hours.

University Libraries is also a member of the Center for Research Libraries, which provides access to many materials UA does not hold. Requests for materials from the CRL may be submitted through interlibrary loan.

In the last 20 years, University Libraries has increased access to  journal subscriptions from 4,000 to 120,000, using consortial purchasing, regional networks, journal aggregators and diligent licensing negotiations. Continual review of collections is necessary to provide access to resources that support the University’s current teaching and research offerings while being good stewards of University resources.
