DIABETES FEATURED TOPIC OF OLLI PROGEAM — Dr. Jared Ellis, assistant professor of family medicine for UA’s College of Community Health Sciences and associate director of its Family Medicine Residency, will present “Providing quality care for the improvement of diabetes” at noon Monday, May 8, as part of a lecture series for UA’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.  Diabetes is one of a number of diseases that involve problems with the hormone insulin. The presentation, which will take place at the Bryant Conference Center, Rast A, will touch on ways diabetics need to manage their disease to stay healthy. CAN WATERMELON REDUCE RISK OF HEART DISEASE? – Two UA researchers are recruiting for a 10-week study to see how watermelon affects blood vessel function. STUDENT WINS COMPETITVE NATIONAL INTERNSHIP AT MUSEUM IN NYC – UA rising senior Sommer Hallquist has been selected for a highly competitive summer internship at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Cloisters in New York City. The Cloisters is a museum specializing in medieval architecture and is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Hallquist, 20, is a Washington native double majoring in art history and anthropology. She is one of eight students from across the U.S. to be selected for the internship out of about 150 applicants.
