Home sales rise by 10 percent

Tuscaloosa area home sales for the first three months of 2017 reached 562 units, a 10 percent increase over the same period a year ago. The first quarter results, announced Monday by the Alabama Center for Real Estate (ACRE), indicate that the 50 additional homes sold over the first quarter of 2016 put the area just under the peak of 600 homes sold during the first three months of 2007. Bryan Davis, research and media coordinator for ACRE, said home demand across Tuscaloosa County “remained solid” during the first quarter of 2017, with homes sold between January and March spending an average of 81 days on the market. This is 19 percent faster than last year’s average of 100 days on the market, he said.

Local students win big at statewide Spanish competition

Local high school Spanish clubs participated in the 46th annual Alabama Federation of Spanish Clubs Convention on April 21, and came away with several awards. Spanish clubs from around the state gather at The University of Alabama each year to compete in various competitions centered around Spanish speaking countries. This year the theme was Central America.

And now, as that 60 year mark approaches, one of his own family is rising to the top in the football world…The legendary coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide lives on in a young man who is a star quarterback for Hewitt-Trussville High School. His name is Paul Tyson, and he’s Coach Paul “Bear’ Bryant’s great-grandson.

UA to take part in job fair

You can meet and give your resume to more than two dozen potential employers tomorrow. The University of Alabama, Chick-fil-A, Buffalo Rock, TSA and the Department of Homeland Security are just some of the 26 employers who will be at the McDonald Hughes Center tomorrow for a job fair from 1-4 p.m.
