The University of Alabama announced today it is beginning its search for a new vice president for financial affairs and treasurer.
“Dr. Lynda Gilbert has left an indelible mark at this university. The impact of her leadership can be seen and felt everywhere you look,” said Stuart R. Bell, UA president. “We are grateful for all she has done and her willingness to assist us during this important transition.”
A six-person committee will oversee the national search with the goal of having a candidate in place by fall, said Dr. Kevin Whitaker, executive vice president and provost and chair of the search committee.
“I want to publicly acknowledge the transformational impact Dr. Gilbert, who has served in the position since 2005, has had on this campus and thank her for agreeing to stay and assist with the transition in this position. I also want to thank my colleagues on the search committee for agreeing to serve to help find the best candidate available.”
The vice president for financial affairs and treasurer has responsibility for investment management, budgeting, financial accounting and reporting, and human resources. The position also oversees the auxiliary services, land management, business services, maintenance, construction, public safety and risk management areas.
Additional members of the search committee are Laverne Harris, associate vice president for business activities, Financial Affairs; Dr. Kay Palan, dean, Culverhouse College of Commerce; Bob Pierce, vice president, University Advancement; Marie Robbins, associate athletics director/senior woman administrator, Intercollegiate Athletics; and Dr. Rainer Schad, professor, physics and astronomy.
