KULVAX WINS $50,000 BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION – Three UA undergraduate students are taking the next step in changing how life-saving medicines are transported after winning the $50,000 grand prize at the Edward K. Aldag, Jr. Business Plan Competition Thursday at UA. Business majors Andrew Johnson and Grant Becker, and engineering major Kyle Pecot are the founders of KuLVAX, a start-up company that has created a more efficient cooling process for the transportation of life-saving vaccines, particularly important in developing countries that have unreliable access to ice and electricity. KuLVAX will now pursue a patent for its cartridge that mixes ammonium nitrate and water. They will also use some of their winnings to develop a prototype. The students are available for media interviews Monday after 11:30 a.m. and Tuesday after 1:30 p.m. For more information, contact David Miller, UA media relations, at 205/348-0825 or david.c.miller@ua.edu.
