Pickens Co. Medical Center holds health fair

The Wellness Center of the Pickens County Medical Center buzzed with activity Thursday morning. “We offer services to correct all those problems if you don’t take it upon yourself,” said Jeremy Enslen, the Wellness Director for the Pickens County Medical Center. School children and adults arrived for a health fair. It’s through a partnership between the hospital and the University of Alabama’s College of Community Health Sciences.

Volunteers, Students To Clean Black Warrior River In Tuscaloosa, April 10

What: The Renew Our Rivers Black Warrior River cleanup along the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk is Monday, April 10. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes and report at 3 p.m. at The Park at Manderson Landing. Minors must have a chaperone to participate. The cleanup will end at 7 p.m. This cleanup is coordinated by the University of Alabama Student Government Association, Local Roots and Alabama Power.

Druid City Arts Festival returns this weekend; here’s what you need to know

The eighth annual Druid City Arts Festival will take place Saturday at Government Plaza in Tuscaloosa, featuring a variety of artists, live music and food vendors set to make it another memorable experience the entire family can enjoy. . . . DCAF began with several Creative Campus freshman students at the University of Alabama, as they created a festival that promoted the appreciation of the arts, culture and community in Tuscaloosa.

PREVIEW: Best Buddies Friendship Walk

Since 2009, the Best Buddies Friendship Walk has had over 70,000 participants in 46 cities. It is the number one walk in the country to benefit individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Established in 1993, the purpose of The University of Alabama chapter of Best Buddies has been to establish a global volunteer program that matches college students and IDD individuals to create one-on-one friendships and to help develop leadership and integrated employment skills.

Police forum promotes understanding and open dialogue

In an effort to improve dialogue between University of Alabama students and local law enforcement, the School of Social Work hosted a police forum in Bryant Jordan Hall on Thursday afternoon. A police panel, comprised of representatives from The University of Alabama Police Department, Tuscaloosa Police Department and Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s department spent over an hour answering questions on topics ranging from sexual assault prevention to ways students can stop unnecessary escalation when dealing with police.

Atlanta is already known for having some of the worst traffic in the world, and the recent collapse along a major interstate will only make congestion worse. (Lili Carneglia is a student at the University of Alabama where she is getting a joint bachelor’s and master’s degree in Economics.
