ENGINEERING STUDENTS RE-CREATE HISTORYUA metallurgical and materials engineering students will be re-creating a replica of the hilt of an 18th century British Hanger rapier at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, in the engineering foundry. The sword was supplied to both the British Navy and infantry and likely traded or given to a member of the Creeks sometime in the early to mid-1700s. It has been part of UA Museums for the last half century. Media are invited to watch the process, take photos or video and interview the students. Anyone attending must wear long pants and close-toed shoes. For more information, contact Kim Eaton, UA media relations, 205/348-8325 or kkeaton@ur.ua.edu.

With more than 300,000 over-the-counter drug products on the market, many of which were formerly prescription drugs and can cause serious side and adverse effects and drug interactions, how can the consumer choose wisely as they browse the drug store, grocery and big box aisles? The presentation will take place in the Bryant Conference Center’s Lackey Room. For more information, contact Kim Eaton, UA media relations, 205/348-8325 or kkeaton@ur.ua.edu.
