A warm and gorgeous week of weather provided the perfect backdrop for students to return from spring break at the University of Alabama, punctuated by some pretty plants. We took a quick stroll through campus on Thursday, mainly on and around the Quad, where found some beautiful flowers and trees helping reinforce UA’s status as one of the nicest campuses in the country.

UA Professor discusses American Health Care Act

A University of Alabama professor has shared her thoughts on the possible health care act and how it could affect Alabamians. Dr. Dana Patton says the main differences between Obamacare and the American Health Care Act are how they would affect Alabama citizens directly.

UA students create 3-D Shoe
WVUA (Tuscaloosa) – March 23
A 3-D shoe made entirely out of shoeboxes is what a group of students at The University of Alabama are working on. Combining the technical and creative skills of two colleges brought about the creation of the 3D shoe.

Local residents named to University of Alabama’s dean’s and president’s lists
Lorain Journal (Ohio) – March 23
A total of 11,758 students enrolled during the 2016 fall semester at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean’s List with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the President’s List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s). The UA Dean’s and President’s lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.

Capstone Agency and Alabama Power holding University of Alabama grant competition

Capstone Agency and Alabama Power are nearing the final stretch of the first phase of the Igniting Innovation grant competition that began on Feb. 20. Igniting Innovation empowers student ideas through a competition by crowdsourcing votes via social media to award grants for service projects that benefit the community. “There is an overwhelming number of organizations who want to make a change, but don’t have the means necessary. They have the ideas, but are lacking the funds. Capstone Agency and Alabama Power want to change that,” said Caroline Shannon, assistant account executive. The grant competition has two phases: Phase one – Student organizations at The University of Alabama have until March 24 to submit their ideas for service projects that will improve the Tuscaloosa community. Alabama Power will evaluate the applications, and the organizations with the top ideas will move on to the next phase.

UA Adapted Athletics golf team members take part in golf tournament
WVUA (Tuscaloosa) – March 23
The second annual “Play Fore All” golf tournament hosted by the PARA Foundation and Ol’ Colony Golf Course took place today. Golfers from The University of Alabama Adapted Athletics, PARA officials and TAPP members all participated in the event and the luncheon. The goal is to help build the largest inclusive playground in the southeast here in Tuscaloosa. The estimated cost of that is $1.2 million.

University of Alabama students and professionals from around the country are invited to attend an event dedicated to networking and learning from professionals in the fields of investing and finance known as the annual Capstone Student Investment Conference.

Here’s what’s showing at this weekend’s Black Warrior Film Festival
Crimson White – March 23
This weekend marks the sixth annual Black Warrior Film Festival, which will be held in various locations on the University of Alabama campus. The festival will screen several student films from around the country along with hosting panels with film industry professionals. Of the 27 films accepted into the festival, 14 of them were produced by UA students or alumni. We’ve made a comprehensive list of these films along with what time they will be screened on Saturday at the Ferguson Center Theater, and which ones are in contention for the coveted Holle Award.

UA students take part in Groove and Grill at Gallettes
WVUA (Tuscaloosa) – March 23
Gallettes on the Strip was a little busier than normal this afternoon, thanks to the Alabama Credit Union. “Groove and Grill” was held today on the UA Strip to raise money for Secret Meals for Hungry Children. The first fundraising event of the year was held from 2 until 9 p.m.
