Suicide Prevention Training Program Now Available

College can be a challenging time. Stressors such as roommates, time management, finances, relationships and academics all come up at different times throughout the year. With so many demands, students can become overwhelmed and experience negative feelings.

The Ask Listen Refer Suicide Prevention Training Program is designed to help students recognize the risk factors and warning signs of suicide and respond appropriately. This 15- to 20-minute interactive training program can be found at AskListenRefer.org/ua.

The purpose of this program is to encourage concerned persons to ASK if someone is thinking about suicide, LISTEN to their response carefully, and REFER them to a professional. Through this program, students will learn about the prevalence of suicide among the college population, suicide warning signs, and sample conversations to guide them through this difficult time.

Ask Listen Refer is an interactive online suicide prevention program that has been shown to increase the ability of students to recognize and respond to peers at risk for suicide.

Students who are concerned about a fellow student or want to become more knowledgeable about the risk factors and warning signs of suicide may visit AskListenRefer.org/ua for more information.
