UA’s Lullaby Concert Introduces Children to Music Genres

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s Child Development Resources invites parents and children to its second lullaby concert from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Child Development Research Center.

The free community event, which is sponsored by the PNC Bank Foundation, provides opportunities for children and families to experience the arts in a relaxed, fun, family focused way.

The concert will introduce children to a variety of genres and instruments to stimulate an interest in the arts, said Kristy Brown, training coordinator at the Child Development Research Center.

“It’s just another way to get their interest and to let them be creative and to experience different types of music,” Brown said. “That’s why we decided to go with Alabama Blues Project this year, because a lot of children aren’t exposed to blues music.”

The event is designed for parents and children, from birth through 5. Entertainment will include a musical petting zoo, various musicians and storytellers. Refreshments will be served, and families will also receive a free children’s book.
