Search Committee Narrows List of Applicants for UA Inclusivity Leadership Position

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The search committee assisting with the selection of a vice president and associate provost for diversity, equity and inclusion at The University of Alabama met Friday to review the pool of applicants and selected a group for in-person interviews.

“The field of candidates is a strong, diverse group,” said Dr. Kevin Whitaker, UA’s executive vice president and provost. “We look forward to seeing an outstanding group of finalists visit campus soon.”

Committee members will meet each of the first-round candidates in the coming weeks before narrowing the candidates further to a group of three or four finalists invited to campus for in-depth interviews and open forums with campus and community constituents.

The names of the finalists should be announced in early March.

The 15-member search committee, consisting of UA faculty, staff and students, is working with a search firm, the Desir Group, a national firm with a strong focus on diverse executive searches.

The search launched last fall after a series of information meetings with key campus and community stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students and alumni.
