3-D Printing Services Improved

University Libraries’ 3-D printing service is now even better.

To assist patrons in learning more about 3-D printing, a 3-D print guide explains exactly what 3-D printing is and the services provided by the Libraries, including the 3-D printers in Gorgas Library and the 3-D Studio located in Rodgers Library for Science and Engineering.

A new printer was recently purchased and is now in operation in Gorgas Library, in addition to the 3D Systems CubePro printer. Users email completed 3-D image (STL) files to members of the Libraries technology staff for printing, and are then notified when to pick up the completed job at the second floor circulation desk.

Direct questions about 3-D printing service at Gorgas Library to 3dlib@ua.edu , or post questions to the newly created 3-D printing message board.

For those patrons who would like to print their own projects, the studio in Rodgers Library is available. Patrons are required to participate in a 3-D printer training and safety workshop offered by a Rodgers Library staff member prior to using the equipment.

For additional information about the Rodgers Library 3-D Studio, see the Rodgers Library guide.

All 3-D printing is free of charge and available to all students, faculty and staff.
