UA professor to work with Red Cross in Gatlinburg

A University of Alabama professor is spending her Christmas helping with disaster relief following those wildfires in Gatlinburg. Dr. Suzanne Horsley will be in Gatlinburg to wok with the American Red Cross. Horsely will help provide information on how to help, and how to receive help in the disaster area that left 14 people dead and damaged more than 2,000 buildings.

Concert, banquet honor King’s legacy

Gospel musician Kirk Franklin will headline the Jan. 15 Realizing the Dream Concert, with broadcaster John Quiñones delivering the keynote speech at the Jan. 13 Legacy Awards Banquet. This will be the 28th year for Realizing the Dream, a series of annual events celebrating the life and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Past performers and speakers have included Maya Angelou, James Earl Jones, Sidney Poitier, John Legend, Harry Belafonte, Roberta Flack, Al Green, Julian Bond, Cicely Tyson, Della Reese and more. The 2017 theme is Realizing the Dream Through Acts of Courage and Compassion … Realizing the Dream is a collaboration among the University of Alabama, Stillman College, Shelton State Community College and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
