New Director Named for Capstone Village at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Troy L. Cannaday, the interim executive director of The Hearth at Tudor Gardens in Zionsville, Indiana, has been named executive director of Capstone Village, the retirement community on The University of Alabama campus.

He assumed the post Dec. 1.

Cannaday has a Bachelor of Science degree in therapeutic recreation from Lake Superior State University in Michigan and an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. He has served as chief operating officer of Cedar Sinai Park in Portland, Oregon; and executive director of The Barrington of Carmel in Carmel, Indiana and The Woodlands at Furman in Greenville, South Carolina, among other organizations serving seniors.

He also has assumed leadership positions in the LeadingAge association of service providers to seniors.

UA staff members and Capstone Village residents were involved with the hire, which was approved by UA President Stuart R. Bell. Lisa Rhiney, associate provost for financial affairs, was chair of the committee.

“I am honored and humbled by the opportunity,” Cannaday said. “I look forward to enhancing the mission and fostering the development of a community focused on successful aging by seeking and providing opportunities for Capstone Village residents, UA and the community to be fully engaged together.”

The mission of Capstone Village is to provide premier retirement living in an atmosphere that promotes independence and lifelong learning. The organization seeks to enhance the physical, emotional, cultural and spiritual well-being of its residents, calling upon the resources of a caring professional staff and a cohesive relationship with The University of Alabama.
