Alabama tourism officials: Gatlinburg’s tourism ‘will come back’

The owners of Cherokee Grill, home to “Mountain Specials” like slow-roasted prime rib in Gatlinburg, Tenn., face an unknown fate. The Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum appears to be fine, but nearby homes may have been destroyed. Dollywood seems to be spared, but when it reopens is anyone’s guess … But the wildfire devastation could bring a setback to the region. Meanwhile, states like Alabama could experience a boost, according to Alvin Niuh, assistant professor in the Department of Human Nutrition and Hospitality Management at the University of Alabama. “That area is well known, especially at this time of the year with Christmas and the fall foliage,” Niuh said. “I would say that there are a lot of Alabamians that make this a trip annually. This year, they may have to change their plans.”

Over-the-counter and prescription pain medications linked to drug-induced liver injury

More than 1,000 medications, with acetaminophen being the most common, have been associated with drug-induced liver injury (DILI). Diagnosis can be challenging due to the multitude of contributing factors, and timely recognition and clinical response may mean the difference between recovery and acute liver failure or even death. DILI affects an estimated fewer than 10 people in every 10,000 exposed persons.
