UA study shows patients at risk of suicide say they would place their names on ‘Do Not Sell’ list

A study suggests patients at risk for suicide support voluntary gun control. The University of Alabama study polled 200 patients at UAB psychiatric clinics. More than half were willing to put their name on a no sell list. It would prevent them from immediately buying a gun. More than 700 people commit suicide in Alabama every year.

UA to hold free hearing screenings

The University of Alabama’s Department of Communicative Disorders “Hear Here Alabama” truck will be offering students and faculty free hearing screenings Thursday. Students from the department will have the opportunity to assist in performing the screenings. The department is aiming to offer a free screening at least once each semester.

Rep. Bradley Byrne clarifies position on Donald Trump: Supporting GOP ticket

U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne said Tuesday that he plans to support the Republican ticket on Nov. 8. Byrne’s position on the presidential race comes after his office issued a critical news release on Saturday that said GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump was unfit for the presidency … Richard Fording, a political science professor at the University of Alabama, said that as long as Trump loses, Byrne and Roby will not face political backlash. “I think voters will forget,” he said.

Oak Grove’s meteorite heading back for Saturday’s Homecoming Festival

A piece of Alabama history – all the way from outer space – is making its own kind of homecoming this week. The Daily Home is reporting the Hodges Meteorite will be on display this weekend as part of Oak Grove’s Homecoming and Music Festival this Saturday. On Nov. 30, 1954, Ann Elizabeth Hodges was struck by a meteorite in Oak Grove. The now-famous “Hodges Meteorite” weighs about 8½ pounds and is on permanent display at the Alabama Museum of Natural History at the University of Alabama.

Students take the stage for a night of dance at ARDT

With the Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre, you never know what’s coming next. The ARDT is a dance company at The University of Alabama designed to prepare students for competitions on larger stages both nationally and internationally. Performances are spread across a variety of genres of dance, from ballet to more contemporary pieces.
