TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama’s department of communicative disorders is providing free hearing screenings to students, faculty and staff on Oct. 13.

From 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., the Hear Here Alabama truck will be set up behind Gorgas Library.

Dr. Marcia Hay-McCutcheon, an auditory expert at UA and associate professor of communicative disorders, said the screenings will last about 30 seconds.

“We put headphones on the person being tested and ask them to push the button when they hear the sound,” Hay-McCutcheon said. “We screen both the left and the right ear for hearing loss.

“If we find that there’s a hearing loss we recommend that they go get their hearing evaluated further.”

Hay-McCutcheon said UA students can come to the Speech and Hearing Center at 700 University Blvd. E. on campus for a discounted hearing evaluation.
