TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Richard “Rick” Barth will join The University of Alabama as assistant vice president for enrollment management, effective Dec. 1.

“Dr. Barth brings to UA a wealth of administrative experience in all facets of enrollment management,” said Dr. Kevin Whitaker, interim provost, in announcing the selection.

A three-time UA graduate who holds bachelor’s, master’s and law degrees from the Capstone, Barth earned his Ph.D. from the University of Florida.

“The University of Alabama truly transformed my life and the life of my family,” Barth said. “Therefore, I am beyond excited to be able to come back to the University and join a team that has already accomplished so much as we continue to build on the University’s enrollment success.”

Barth served as vice president of enrollment management at the University of Montevallo for the last five years and has held previous administrative positions at Plymouth State, UAH, the University of West Florida and the University of Florida.

This will be Barth’s second stint as a UA employee, as he also served as assistant director of campus programs at UA from 1990 until 1993.

“I know you will join me in making Dr. Barth feel welcomed,” Whitaker said. “I would also like to thank Mary Spiegel for her tremendous dedication to campus and wish her all the best in her upcoming retirement.”
