Study Abroad Makes Education an Adventure

StudyAbroad101-InHouseWhy study abroad? The reasons are as varied as the opportunities. Create a resume that stands out by adding an internship. Become fluent in another language. Take courses not offered at home. And at the same time, live in places most people only dream about visiting.

The Office of Education Abroad, part of the Capstone International Center, assists UA students who want to venture abroad for a few weeks, a summer, a semester or more, depending on the student’s needs.

Because there are many things to consider, from choosing a program of study to financing it to how the time abroad fits into your larger academic goals, early planning is essential. The Education Abroad staff recommends starting the process by attending Study Abroad 101, a 20-minute presentation offered Monday through Friday at 3 p.m. in 135 B.B. Comer Hall. No registration is needed to attend Study Abroad 101.

After listening to the presentation, make an appointment to speak with an adviser who can help you through the process. You may also want to attend the Study Abroad Fair on Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of B.B. Comer Hall, another chance to learn about the many options from which to choose.

Nothing beats hearing from other students; visit Bama Bloggers Abroad to read first-person accounts of your fellow students who are studying abroad or who have returned home from their adventures.

Applications for Spring 2017 study abroad are open now. Deadline to apply is Oct. 15.
