PSA Sets Direction for Coming Year

Comprised of elected representatives from across the University, the Professional Staff Assembly meets monthly to conduct business and address issues that affect professional staff such as child care, parking, benefits, campus growth and cyber-security.

In 2016-2017 the PSA will focus on the following:

Maintain a working knowledge of current campus policies and potential changes to those policies, as they affect professional staff.

Stay informed of policies and procedures related to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Work with campus partners to increase visibility and awareness of the PSA. “We bring campus partners in to share how staff can get involved, talk about issues on campus and to hear the voice of the collective staff,” said PSA president Darrell Hargreaves.

Be an advocate for all professional staff on the UA campus. The PSA represents UA employees holding full-time regular professional (non-faculty) positions that are eligible for full benefits and classified Equal Employment Opportunity 3   (EEO 3).

Collect $5,000 for the Brewer-Porch Holiday Fund and host an Easter party for residents. Brewer-Porch Children’s Center, a part of the College of Arts and Sciences, offers residential and day treatment programs for children with emotional and developmental challenges. Every year the PSA raises funds each holiday season to provide the Center’s residential children with much needed support.

Increase professional development opportunities. The PSA’s professional development committee identifies and evaluates options for enhancing the professional abilities and skills of UA staff. This committee also selects recipients for the annual Outstanding Professional Award and the Mark G. Foster Scholarship.
