Rio blog: Pool Games and Visit to the “German House”

(Babsi Gross is an incoming freshman wheelchair basketball player from Germany. She’s been competing with the German National Team for two years and will compete for Germany at the Paralympic Games in Rio, which began Sept. 7. Gross will blog periodically about her experiences in Rio.)

Babsi Gross will compete for the German National Team at the Paralympic Games in Rio.
Babsi Gross scored 18 points for the German National Team Monday in its preliminary round win over Argentina at the Paralympic Games in Rio.

Wow, the pool games are already over and we actually finished first in our group!

After a tough loss in our second game against Great Britain, we had to win our game against Canada with at least 8 points to have a chance to become the first of our group.

We beat Canada by 14 points to move on to the last game against Argentina today.

We also beat Argentina. Argentina wasn’t as strong of a team as some others we faced, so everybody got the chance to play today. I also scored 18 points in our win over Argentina.

Tomorrow we will play in the quarterfinal against France. Let’s see what’s happening after that!

After our win against Canada we had a nice afternoon as a team at the German House, a designated area in which athletes can meet with sponsors, politicians and journalists and talk about their experience of the Games. It is situated at the Barra Blue Beach Point.
