Dr. Susan Burkett has been named interim associate vice president for research, effective Aug. 16. She joins Dr. John C. Higginbotham, who has served in the same capacity since Feb. 1, 2015. She replaces Dr. Allen Parrish, who retired from UA this past May. She will maintain her current role as Alabama Power Foundation Endowed Professor in the College of Engineering.

Dr. Eric Weisbard‘s book, “Top 40 Democracy: The Rival Mainstreams of American Music” (University of Chicago Press), was awarded the Woody Guthrie Book Prize for the most outstanding book in popular music from the International Association of the Study of Popular Music – U.S. Branch.
