‘A Legendary Legacy’ Theme of 2016 UA Homecoming

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s annual Homecoming celebration runs from Sunday, Sept. 25, to Saturday, Oct 1.

This year’s theme is “A Legendary Legacy: Honor. Build. Live.” For details on Homecoming events, registration and tickets, go to https://homecoming.sa.ua.edu/.

The Homecoming Parade will take place at 1 p.m. before the Alabama-Kentucky football game Oct. 1. The traditional pep rally and bonfire will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, on the Quad.

Students groups also will participate in a local Habitat for Humanity restoration. Student organizations will be working in four-hour shifts from Monday, Sept.  26 to Thursday, Sept. 29. Other events include:

The 27th Annual Roll Tide Run: The event takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25. The annual 5k race, helps to kick off the events of Homecoming Week. Check-in is at University Boulevard and Colonial Drive.

Paint the Town Red: Student groups partner with a local business to decorate the windows in the theme of Homecoming. The competition runs from Monday, Sept. 26, to noon Thursday, Sept. 29.

Homecoming Queen elections: UA students will vote for Homecoming Queen Tuesday, Sept. 27. The campaign begins Tuesday, Sept. 20. The Homecoming Court will be announced Wednesday, Sept. 28. The Homecoming Queen will be announced Sept. 30 at the pep rally and crowned Oct. 1 during the game.

Can Formation Competition: Student groups will compete in building structures made up of canned food from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the Ferguson Student Center. The cans will be donated to the West Alabama Food Bank.

Choreography Competition: Teams have a week to prepare a choreographed dance number based on a provided theme. Teams then participate in a friendly dance competition at Coleman Coliseum. Homecoming Step Show: UA’s chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council presents the show representing eight fraternities and sororities in a competition featuring intricate dance steps, vibrant music selections and elaborate show themes.
