Partnership between UA and Pickens County to improve rural healthcare

This is a partnership between The University of Alabama and Pickens County. People behind it believe its a first of its kind The partnership began to grow a few years ago when Pickens County Medical Center in Carrollton was facing som major hardships, but it has recently just taken off in the past few months. The relationship is between The University of Alabama and the entire county, helping put University Fellowes in different health related programs and areas across the entire county. The goal Is improving health and health services in Pickens County, and making the program sustainable long-term.
Tied with the Tide: Events slated for new University of Alabama students

The University of Alabama’s University Programs will host a series of events, collectively called called Tied with the Tide, for students who have moved back to campus early for band camp, Camp 1831 — a program introducing freshmen or transfer students to the area — or sorority recruitment. The events are meant to foster community and introduce students to UA and life on campus. The series kicks off at 7 p.m. Saturday with a mini-carnival on the Ridgecrest — housing at 900 Second St. on campus — Community lawn, featuring inflatables, snow cones and table-top carnival games. At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, students can catch a movie on the soccer field near the Rec Center on Fifth Avenue.
University of Alabama to hold graduation ceremony

The University of Alabama will hold its summer commencement exercises Saturday at Coleman Coliseum on the UA campus. The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. More than 1,500 diplomas are scheduled to be awarded to undergraduate and graduate students from all colleges and schools. The ceremony will be broadcast live over the Internet. The webcast will be archived at ua.edu/commencement/, and it will be available for viewing for 30 days following the ceremony.
UA students about to move in

You may see big crowds in Tuscaloosa at Walmart, Target and grocery stores. Tomorrow morning is early arrival move-in day for University of Alabama students. Starting at 8 in the morning the students will start piling into their dorms, so expect heavy traffic and long lines at stores as they settle in for the new semester that starts August 17. The majority of students will move in on August 12.
Nick’s Kids Luncheon held at UA

Today was one of Nick and Terri Saban’s favorite days. The duo hosting lots of kids at the Nick Kid’s Charity luncheon at The University of Alabama. To date, the foundation has donated over $5.5 million to 150 children’s charities in the state of Alabama and throughout the south.

And it’s not just grade schools getting ready for a new school year, the first day of Fall classes at The University of Georgia are August 11. Columbus State University starts August 15 as well as Columbus Tech. Auburn University the 16th, and The University of Alabama on August 17th.

Should you note the lack of order or predictability in a system — a life, relationship, job — heralding a gradual decline into disorder, you might just be an observer of the entropic principle … Brilliant, beautiful and talented students from the University of Alabama Department of Theatre and Dance are, on or about this moment — six hours’ difference — dancing an original creation titled “co/lapse,” built around entropy, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Six choreographers took that theme and ran — capered, careened, cavorted — with it.
