UA Announces Strategic Plan for Advancing the Flagship

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama today unveiled a five-year strategic plan to serve as the roadmap for its future success.

The UA Strategic Plan: Advancing the Flagship is available at https://www.ua.edu/strategicplan.

“This plan allows us to dream big, to take the outstanding university we are today and to envision opportunities and possibilities and strive for greater success through four specific goals,” said UA President Stuart R. Bell.

“The plan is a long-term, living document that will enable our future. It is credited to the hard work and thoughtful input of many stakeholders, and its success will be their legacy.”

The plan is driven by the vision of a student-centered research university and academic community committed to an enhanced quality of life.  Its four main goals are focused on providing premier education programs and scholarship, increasing impactful research, supporting inclusive communities, and enhancing faculty/staff recruitment and retention.

Some of the strategies that will be used to advance the University’s plan are college and department based while others are University-wide initiatives. Each goal includes a number of objectives to guide progress across the entire campus.

Bell announced his plan to develop the strategic plan last fall, forming a 15-member Strategic Planning Council to lead the effort. Led by Interim Provost Kevin Whitaker, the council invited input from more than 100,000 stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, alumni and others. Meeting weekly throughout the spring and summer, the council used that input to help guide the plan’s development.
