University of Alabama unveils statue honoring Chancellor Robert Witt
Tuscaloosa News – June 15
The University of Alabama System board of trustees has installed a bronze statue of outgoing Chancellor Robert Witt in front of the student activity center at Presidential Village and is renaming the collection of residential complexes on the north side of campus in recognition of his contributions to the campus and system. “I want to congratulate Bob on a stellar career. We are so proud of you and what you have done,” Board President pro tem Karen Brooks said Wednesday.

Just days after a gunman opened fire in a gay club in Orlando, Florida, a complex and sometimes contradictory picture of his motivations is emerging … Some researchers think that even people who seem like straightforward terrorists — suicide bombers, for example — are driven by personal mental-health problems. In his book, “The Myth of Martyrdom: What Really Drives Suicide Bombers, Rampage Shooters and Other Self-Destructive Killers” (St. Martin’s Press, 2013), University of Alabama criminal justice professor Adam Lankford argues that mental-health problems are common in suicide attackers.
 
UA Biologist discusses alligators after attack at Disney resort

A tragic story out of Florida, where a family is experiencing an unimaginable loss. While wading in shallow water with their two year-old son an alligator attacked and killed the little boy. Meanwhile, back here at home, Dr. Stephen Secor, professor of Biological Science at The University of Alabama, says it’s important to take precautions and to know your surroundings when you are near bodies of water. He says there have been some sightings of alligators in Tuscaloosa county.
