Company marketing privacy tent used at Alabama football games
Tuscaloosa News – June 7
A company co-founded by University of Alabama graduates has begun selling a pop-up privacy tent that captured national attention when it appeared on the Crimson Tide sidelines last football season. Kinematic Sports LLC is marketing the SidelineER to professional, collegiate and prep sports teams. The tent was the result of a collaboration between UA’s athletics department and engineering college. The university helped secured a patent on the device and has given the Kinematic Sports exclusive rights to manufacture, market and distribute the tent, according to Rick Swatloski, director of UA’s Office for Technology Transfer.

University of Alabama senior competes on ‘American Ninja Warrior’ Wednesday

University of Alabama senior Casey Suchocki is among the competitors in the episode of the NBC program “American Ninja Warrior” airing at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The 24-year-old civil and construction engineering major will compete under the name Bama Ninja. He is among the hopefuls vying in the eighth season of “American Ninja Warrior,” a show patterned on a Japanese program where competitors navigate increasingly difficult obstacle courses. Suchocki is competing in the regional competition in Atlanta, one of five cities nationwide where qualifying rounds take place. An encore showings of the Atlanta episode will run on the Esquire Network.

Tuscaloosa County Chapter of UA National Alumni Association holds wine tasting event

Tonight the Tuscaloosa County Chapter of The University of Alabama National Alumni Association held its 13th annual Crimson and White wine tasting event. Owners of the Wine Cellar hosted the event. The alumni association sees the event as a great way to keep members in the Tuscaloosa area connected and involved in the association.

Hillary Clinton steps into history

Claiming her place in history, Hillary Clinton declared victory Tuesday night in her bruising battle for the Democratic presidential nomination, becoming the first woman to lead a major American political party and then immediately taking aim at Republican Donald Trump … “It is significant. She should be commended for fighting on after a stinging defeat eight years ago,” said Bill Stewart, professor emeritus of political science at the University of Alabama. He was referring the Clinton’s loss to President Barack Obama for the nomination. “Fortunately for her, she faces a candidate who has more critics than any candidate in my lifetime because of his frequent remarks that seem to be unpresidential,” Stewart said, referring to Trump.

Bankhead House & Heritage Center to be open Thursday evening ahead of Tallulah Tribute events

The Bankhead House & Heritage Center will be open extended hours on Thursday as part of the second annual Tallulah Bankhead Tribute. The Bankhead House, built by William Brockman Bankhead (the 47th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives) in 1925, is now a historical site in Jasper, and the home where a young Tallulah Bankhead established her southern roots … The Bankhead House is open Thursday night prior to a screening from 8 to 9 p.m. at the home’s amphitheatre of “The Bankheads: A Film about Three Generations of one of Alabama’s Most Historic Families.” The documentary is produced by the University of Alabama Center for Public Television, and explores the lives of the Bankheads and their role in American history.

Mining another national astrobotics championship

When people think of The University of Alabama’s championships teams, the school’s robotics team may not be the first to come to mind. But a string of victories is putting Alabama Astrobotics in the spotlight. On May 23, Alabama Astrobotics placed first in the categories of mining, autonomy and technical presentation at this year’s NASA Robotic Mining Competition held at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, winning the overall competition for the third straight year.
