UA’s Robertson to Deliver Orman Harris Lecture

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Liz Robertson, professor and associate dean for research in the College of Human Environmental Sciences at The University of Alabama, will speak about child behavioral interventions Wednesday on the UA campus.

The lecture, titled, “Preventing Health-risking Behaviors through Early Childhood Interventions, ”is part of the Orman Harris Lecture Series hosted by the UA College of Human Environmental Sciences.

The lecture is open and free to the public and will be held on Wednesday, April 13 at 3 p.m. at the Child Development Research Center on 5th Avenue, adjacent to Capstone Village.

In her talk, Robertson will highlight the role of the federal government in setting research directions and agendas and findings from longitudinal follow-up studies of early childhood interventions.

Prior to joining the university faculty, Robertson served as chief of the Prevention Research Branch for the National Institutes of Health and senior advisor for Prevention Research at the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Robertson has presented her work on the prevention of drug use initiation and progression, including a developmental focus from early childhood through adulthood and contextual foci to include the family, school, the criminal justice and social welfare systems, clinical and recreational settings, and the media, nationally and in Europe, Asia, Central America and Canada.
