UA Student Wins Advertising Scholarship, AdTeam Places Second in District

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Ashley Paulmeno, a junior in The University of Alabama’s department of advertising and public relations, was named the 2016 winner of the American Advertising Federation’s mosaic scholarship.

The scholarship aims to promote diversity within the advertising industry.

Paulmeno received the scholarship while competing with the UA AdTeam in the district seven National Student Advertising Competition.

The team won the award for Best Plans Book for their work on Snapple Beverage Co.’s national advertising campaign. They placed second overall in the district where they competed against schools from across the Southeast.

“Earning the award for Best Plans Book in district seven is an honor that recognizes the excellent strategic and creative thinking by the AdTeam members,” said Dr. Joe Phelps, chair of UA’s advertising and public relations department. “I am proud of the work product they produced but prouder still of the dedication, collaboration and passion for excellence each of the team members displayed in creating this award-winning campaign.”

The AdTeam is composed of student members of the American Advertising Federation. Each year, the team puts together a national advertising campaign for big name brands that have included Snapple, Mary Kay and Pizza Hut.

In the team’s 42 year history at The University of Alabama, they have won eight regional championships and one national championship.
