UA Engineering Recognizes Outstanding Alumni Volunteer

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama College of Engineering recognizes Selina S. Lee as the 2016 Outstanding Alumni Volunteer.

Lee has demonstrated her consistent loyalty to the College of Engineering, and in 2015 she was elected to a two-year term as chair of the Capstone Engineering Society board of directors.

Lee, Eastern Division’s general manager for Alabama Power Co., earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from UA in 1990 and has been part of the CES Board of Directors since 2003.

In 1995, the UA College of Engineering began a yearly tradition recognizing an alumnus who provided excellent volunteer assistance as the Outstanding Alumni Volunteer.

While a member of CES, Lee has served on the Outstanding Senior Selection Committee, participated at CES Networking Receptions and serves an alumni mentor in the Mentor UPP: Undergraduate Professional Program.

She recently coordinated a luncheon at the Alabama Power corporate office in Birmingham with administrators from the College of Engineering and about 75 UA alumni who work for Alabama Power or Southern Co.

Lee joined Alabama Power as an engineer after graduating from UA. Taking on increasing responsibility, she was a Transmission Line Maintenance supervisor in Birmingham and an Engineering supervisor in Pell City.

In 2003, she was appointed assistant to the senior vice president of Alabama Power, gaining broad exposure to the company as well as leading the coordination of the Contract Guidance Manual.

In 2004, she became Distribution support manager in Birmingham, responsible for coordinating a $30 million capital budget and a $23 million operating budget. She provided support services for reliability and compliance as well as managed Birmingham Steam Heat.

In 2006, she was promoted to her present position in Anniston. As general manager of Distribution in eastern Alabama, Lee is responsible for the safety of 225 employees who provide electricity to 220,000 customers in eight counties. In her role, she also develops leadership training for all Power Delivery supervisors in the company, providing training for more than 400 supervisors.

Along with her degree from UA, she earned an Executive MBA from Auburn University in 2003.

Lee and her husband, Ken, live in Oxford. They have two children.
