ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Magnolia Deck has been designated as a shelter for people with pets during severe weather. Pets must be in a carrier or cage or muzzled. No snakes or bugs will be allowed. Owners should bring their pet’s water and water dish. Campus tornado shelters at North Campus Storm Shelter, East Campus Storm Shelter, and the Magnolia Parking Deck BARA are available to students, faculty and staff who feel safer on campus than in their off-campus residences.  A map of the shelters is available at http://prepare.ua.edu/?page_id=4319. Tuscaloosa remains under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. The University strongly encourages each person to monitor weather updates from the National Weather Service and local media sources. Safety tips and weather information are posted at http://prepare.ua.edu.

On Feb. 8, UA will launch the Student Experience in the Research University (SERU) survey. Students who participate in the survey can help shape UA’s future and make the UA experience a better one for all students. Soon, UA students will receive an invitation via email from SERU to participate in the survey, which will run throughout the spring semester.

Weather permitting, the University will test UA Alerts, the emergency public address system and digital signage at 11:55 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month. The test will last approximately 30 seconds and should not be disruptive. Immediately following at noon, the Tuscaloosa Emergency Management Agency will test the outdoor tornado sirens, weather permitting.

All locations of the University Supply Store will be closed Sunday, Feb. 7, for system updates. The stores will reopen Feb. 8 at 8 a.m.

Open enrollment for the University-sponsored health insurance plan for students has been extended to Feb. 10. All graduate students taking 3 or more credit hours and undergraduate students taking 6 or more credit hours are eligible to participate. Enroll at https://www.uhcsr.com/ua. Students seeking a Student Government Association executive position or senate seat for Spring Semester 2016 can access the link to the Statement of Candidacy and Intent at http://vote.ua.edu under the Forms tab. The deadline for applications is Thursday, Feb. 4, by 6 p.m.

Applications for Peer Leaders are due Friday, Feb. 5, by 5 p.m. Peer Leaders mentor first-year students and help facilitate courses alongside faculty. More information: fye@ua.edu or 348-8404.

The University Stewards is accepting applications for new membership. University Stewards help UA admissions counselors recruit top students from around the nation by creating personal relationships with prospective students and their families. Applications for the International Peer Advisory Council are due Feb. 26 by 4:45 p.m. IPAC members assist international students adjust to UA life.

Use your programming knowledge and earn Service Learning Pro hours at the same time by volunteering with Girls Who Code, a nationwide program to educate young women and men in computer science.
