ANNOUNCEMENTS
Weather permitting, the University will test UA Alerts, the emergency public address system and digital signage at 11:55 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month. The test will last approximately 30 seconds and should not be disruptive. Immediately following at noon, the Tuscaloosa Emergency Management Agency will test the outdoor tornado sirens, weather permitting.

Spring Get On Board Day: “Excursion” will be held Jan. 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Ferguson Student Center. Bring your friends and enjoy a night of connecting to new organizations, free food, performances, a DJ, special guests, giant games and more. Free Steel City Pops go to the first 300 attendees. Come ready to explore, discover and get involved with the First Year Council and the SOURCE. Organizational registration is still open at http://sa.tix.com/Event.

Sitters for Service seeks baby sitters. Students can earn community service hours in exchange for baby-sitting for student parents. The deadline to submit applications is Jan. 15.

Award-winning South African artist Jonathan Butler will be the featured performer for the 2016 Realizing the Dream Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, at the Moody Music Building concert hall. Former U.S. attorney General Douglas Jones will deliver the annual Legacy Banquet lecture at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in downtown Tuscaloosa. At the Legacy Banquet, UA Student Government Association President Elliot Spillers will receive the Horizon Award. Read the UA News release for more information.
The Women in STEM Experience Symposium will be held Jan. 22-23 at the Bryant Conference Center. All women working or studying in a STEM discipline, as well as men who support women in STEM, are welcome to register for the free symposium. Details are available at http://wise.ua.edu. A free geocache tour of multiple science labs on campus will be held Jan. 22. The tour is free but only open to the first 300 people who register online at http://wise.ua.edu.
