Sitters for Service applications, Jan. 15

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Student Health Center‘s holiday hours are Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; no evening or weekend hours. The center will close Dec. 24-Jan. 3. Regular hours will resume on Jan. 4, 2016.

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, all Internet-network access, services and applications will be unavailable until Dec. 20 at noon. The outage is necessary to replace the uninterruptible power supply in the data center. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Office of Information Technology Service Desk at itsd@ua.edu or 348-5555.

The northbound driving lane of Hackberry Lane by the biology building will be closed Dec. 21 because of construction. Flagmen will be located in the area to provide assistance. Contact Joe Cobb at 205-523-2160 or jocobb@fa.ua.edu for more information.

STUDENT AFFAIRS

Alice, a new fashion and lifestyle magazine, has debuted at The University of Alabama. The magazine is produced by and for college-aged women interested in fashion, fitness, beauty, food, entertainment and lifestyle. Alice is published by UA’s Office of Student Media and includes a companion website at https://alice.ua.edu. The print issue is available for purchase at the University Supply Store locations at the Ferguson Student Center and Tutwiler Hall and off campus at Barnes and Noble in Midtown Village. It can also be purchased online at http://osm.ua.edu.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Sitters for Service seeks baby sitters. Students can earn community service hours in exchange for baby-sitting for student parents. The deadline to submit applications is Jan. 15, 2016.

EVENTS

The Women in STEM Experience Symposium will be held Jan. 22-23, 2016, at the Bryant Conference Center. All women working or studying in a STEM discipline, as well as men who support women in STEM, are welcome to register for the free symposium. Complete details are available at http://wise.ua.edu. A free geocache tour of multiple science labs on campus will be held Jan. 22. The tour is free but only open to the first 300 people who register online at http://wise.ua.edu.
