ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Higher Education Act of 1965 requires institutions to make certain information available to the campus community and general public. The University has established a website, http://www.ua.edu/academic/hea, to compile and disclose in one location pertinent information related to the HEA’s requirements. For more information, read the Higher Education Act Compliance Memorandum from Dr. Kevin Whitaker, UA’s interim provost.

Weather permitting, the University will test UA Alerts, the emergency public address system and digital signage at 11:55 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month. The test will last approximately 30 seconds and should not be disruptive. Immediately following at noon, the Tuscaloosa Emergency Management Agency will test the outdoor tornado sirens, weather permitting.

Need academic help? UA’s Center for Academic Success offers free walk-in tutoring in math, science, and business courses, as well as a variety of study-skills workshops. Check the UA events calendar http://events.ua.edu or http://www.cas.ua.edu for dates and locations. More information: casinfo@ua.edu or 348-5175.

CAMPUS SAFETY

The University of Alabama Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report and The University of Alabama Gadsden Center Annual Campus Security Report are available. These reports are required by federal law and contain policy statements and crime statistics and, for UA, applicable fire safety policies and procedures. These reports also address policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security (e.g., policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses). Three years of statistics are included for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in or on off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the school, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to the campus. The UA and Gadsden Center reports are available online to view or print at safety.ua.edu. You may also request a paper copy of either report from The University of Alabama Police Department’s Office of Community Services by telephone at 205-348-8361, by email at ua.police@ua.edu or by U.S. Postal Service at Box 870180, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0180.

UA has created a “Should You Act: Intervention Training” link on the UAct website. The site contains three videos to help you decide whether you should take action in situations that may involve sexual assault.
