TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Cover designs of books by 34 faculty authors in The University of Alabama’s College of Arts and Sciences are on display Aug. 3-28 at The University of Alabama Gallery in the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center in downtown Tuscaloosa. An opening reception will be held Friday, Aug. 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Both the exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

The exhibit, “Cover to Cover: Authors from the College of Arts and Sciences,” features authors who are internationally recognized scientists, writers, artists and scholars. They represent 18 academic disciplines in three divisions: social sciences, natural sciences and mathematics, and humanities and fine arts.

“These faculty are not only expert and dedicated teachers but also active researchers and scholars, producing in the 2014-2015 academic year an impressive 31 books and 844 scholarly articles, book chapters and musical compositions or compact discs,” said Dr. Tricia McElroy, associate dean of humanities and fine arts in UA’s College of Arts and Sciences. “From critical studies of pop culture to examinations of war-time images; from a detailed survey of North American rivers to an assessment of the impact of relativity on astrophysics; from an experimental novella to essays on Cuban culture to a theoretical approach to the problem of race – our faculty demonstrate again and again the depth and range of their intellectual pursuits.”

The University of Alabama Gallery offers a year-round schedule of exhibitions of artistic works, artifacts, textiles and more from permanent collections held by UA, as well as works by faculty, students, and guest artists and designers.

The UA Gallery is located at 620 Greensboro Avenue in downtown Tuscaloosa. It is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and the first Fridays of the month until 8 p.m. For more information, phone the gallery at 205/345-3038 or phone 205/342-2060.

The gallery is part of UA’s College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest liberal arts college in the state. Students from the College have won numerous national awards including Rhodes Scholarships and Goldwater Scholarships.
