Diversity Expert to Speak at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Damon A. Williams, an expert on diversity who has spoken on more than 250 college campuses, will deliver a talk titled “ Higher Education Diversity and the 21st Century Global Economy: A Perfect Storm” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 23, at the Moody Music Building Concert Hall.

Williams’ talk is part of a two-day series of talks and workshops on diversity March 23 and 24.

Williams serves as executive vice president for education and outreach for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. He previously worked as vice provost and chief diversity officer for the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was a member of the faculty of the department of educational leadership and policy analysis.

His has written “Strategic Diversity Leadership: Activating Change and Transformation in Higher Education” and “The Chief Diversity Officer: Strategy, Structure, and Change Management” (with Dr. Katrina Wade-Golden).

At UW-Madison, he helped found the Division of Diversity, Equity and Educational Achievement. Williams also recently received the Inclusive Excellence Award for Leadership presented by the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education and the INROADS award for strategic partnerships.

Williams received his doctorate from the University of Michigan Center for the Study of Higher and Post-Secondary Education. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Miami University of Ohio.
