TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Enrollment at The University of Alabama reached a record high 34,852 students this fall, and it includes some of the nation’s most academically talented students.
Total enrollment is up 3.7 percent, an increase of 1,250 students over fall 2012, and it includes 29,443 undergraduates and 5,409 graduate and first professional students.
The freshman class totals 6,478 students, including 1,768 students who had a 4.0 or higher GPA in high school and 1,741 students who scored in the top 5 percent on the ACT. The average ACT score for the class is 25.8, the highest in UA history.
“The University of Alabama is attracting students who are successful both inside and outside the classroom,” said UA President Judy Bonner. “Our incoming students are very well qualified. Many first-year students have already completed AP, International Baccalaureate or dual enrollment college courses, and we are pleased that they are choosing UA to pursue their goals.”
More than 600 National Merit Scholars are enrolled at UA, including 126 in the freshman class, and UA’s students and graduates include numerous Fulbright, Goldwater, Truman and Hollings scholars.
Students enrolled at UA this year are from all 50 states and 77 foreign countries.
