Moundville museum a must to visit

…The bowls, disks and figurines are priceless, but their value is enhanced by the interpretations of the renovated museum, which like the rest of the park is owned by the University of Alabama…The museum today rivals the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., not in size or scope, but in the design and execution of it displays, which are world-class. Adding in the significance of the artifacts and the 26 flat-topped earthen mounds that give Moundville its name, it ranks with the top cultural sites in the state of Alabama…

Cemetery records being restored

…Fifty-three students, interns and teachers from the University of Alabama’s Honors Fellowship program have come to do a variety of jobs, including catalog the main cemetery. “When we came to look at the site, we saw that all these graves are here,” said Jake Appelbaum, a marketing student at the University of Alabama. “But there was no solid database, map or anything.” Appelbaum said that there was a need to catalog the site…

Tuscaloosa’s Civil Air Program Works Closely with UA Air Force ROTC
WVUA  (Tuscaloosa) – May 18

Tuscaloosa’s Civil Air Patrol wants a few good teens. The patrol accepts cadets from ages 12 to 18. They work closely with the University of Alabama’s Air Force ROTC program. The cadets learn about aerospace education, aviation, and even assist the civil air patrol at events and during emergencies. Air patrol leaders call it the boy scouts on steroids…During a meeting tonight, cadets heard tonight, cadets heard from University of Alabama Air Force ROTC commandant, Col. Jeffrey McClendon who told them about scholarship and college opportunities available through ROTC.
