UA Telecommunication and Film Professor Elected President of BEA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Dr. Glenda Williams, associate professor of telecommunication and film in the College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama, was elected president of the Broadcast Education Association.

BEA is the national professional association for professors, industry professionals and graduate students who are interested in teaching and research related to electronic media and multimedia enterprises.

Williams teaches classes in media management and marketing. Her research has been published nationally; her areas of expertise include media marketing and promotion, and political communication. She received the Kappa Tau Alpha Commitment to Teaching Award in 2001 and the College’s Board of Visitors Teaching Excellence Award in 2004.

Before turning to teaching as a career, Williams was the director of on-air promotion at the Eternal Word Television Network for five years. Additionally, she has been a freelance writer and producer for 25 years, working with clients both in the Birmingham market and in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Williams received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Montevallo and her doctorate from The University of Alabama.

The UA College of Communication and Information Sciences is among the largest and most prestigious communication colleges in the nation. The College consistently is ranked among the top 10 in number of doctoral degrees awarded and in many of its research programs.
