Clothes from recyclables focus of UA fashion event
Tuscaloosa
News – April 15
The University of Alabama’s clothing, textile and design department’s annual Tee-Time fashion event just got greener. Every year, participating students are given a plain white T-shirt to deconstruct and create a new garment. After weeks of preparation, students will showcase their work in a runway show that will be followed by a silent auction.

Conference teaches financial management

As millions of American struggle to stay afloat during tough economic times, creditors, financial analysts and some University of Alabama professors gathered recently to discuss the latest in financial management techniques. The collective wisdom of those meeting for the Doing What Matters for Tuscaloosa’s Children at the Bryant Conference Center went beyond just techniques to the how’s and why’s of the current consumer spending situation.

The University of Alabama’s MBA Case Team placed third in the George Washington University International MBA case competition. Team members were Lauren Dupuis of Florence; Morgan Martin of Columbus, Miss.; Stephanie Reichman of Camarillo, Calif.; and Danny Smith of Boaz.

Alumni give 2 local students scholarships to the University of Alabama
Columbus (Ga.) Ledger-Enquirer, April 15
The Russell/Muscogee County Chapter of the University of Alabama Alumni Association awarded two local students, Kenedie Barnes of Russell County High and Hayley Walker of Harris County High, scholarships to the University of Alabama. The two students were the first recipients of the Tom and Jeri Starlin Scholarship Endowment. University President Robert Witt was on hand at a chapter meeting Monday to present the scholarships.

A-Day game countdown

“Tide fans are counting down the days to the biggest practice  game of the year. The University of Alabama’s A-Day game is Saturday.  Gates open at 11, but kick-off isn’t until two, admission is free.”

Cell phone safey while driving study
WSFA-NBC, Montgomery-Selma – April 14
“On Interstates in Montgomery, signs are alerting drivers to put the phone down in work zones. The Alabama Department of Transportation put up the signs because of the high volume of crashes and fatalities in construction areas. A study by the University of Alabama did not specifically say talking on the cell phone and driving caused those wrecks, but not paying attention was one of the reasons. State lawmakers are considering a bill right now in the Senate that would ban driving and talking on the cell phone.”

Stress Less event to be held
Crimson White – April 15
The Office of Graduate Student Services will host a Stress Less day in conjunction with the GradFest celebration, a week of appreciation activities to recognize the hard work and dedication of graduate students on campus. According to Rosalind L. Moore, director of Graduate Student Services, the Stress Less Day was rescheduled and will now occur Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in order to accommodate more activities and opportunities for graduate students to relax. “The Stress Less Day is geared towards encouraging the campus community to participate in stress relieving activities, as we approach these final weeks of exams,” Moore said.
