UA Community Service Center to Host National Volunteer Week

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Community Service Center will be hosting National Volunteer Week and providing service opportunities for faculty, staff and students.

Volunteers are asked to sign up at the Community Service Center in 345 Ferguson Center or at Earth Fest on Sunday, April 19, on the Quad at the CSC table from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. The first 300 volunteers will receive a free mini-dessert from Venice Italian Fusion, and the first 500 volunteers to sign up will receive a free “LIVE UNITED” T-shirt, donated by Drake Printers.

Beginning Sunday, April 19, the UA community can participate in a dessert tasting contest from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Quad during Earth Fest. From 5-7 p.m., volunteers are needed to assist with clean up after Earth Fest, taking down tables and collecting trash and recyclables.

The United Way is seeking volunteers for the annual “Days of Action” to read 30 minutes per day to local schools from Tuesday, April 21-Friday, April 24.

The Boys and Girls Club also seeks volunteers on Friday, April 24 from 3-6 p.m. to paint their gym and assist in other arts and crafts projects.

To conclude the week, volunteers will help clean up the banks of the Black Warrior River on Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26.
