Army ROTC Cadet at UA Receives National Award

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Noel Jordan, a student at The University of Alabama from Mt. Brook, has received the Marshall Award for being selected UA’s top Army ROTC cadet for this academic year.

The Marshall Award is given annually to the top cadet from each of the 273 Army ROTC units around the nation.

As part of the honor, Jordan is participating in the George C. Marshall ROTC Awards Seminar April 15-17 in Lexington, Va., on the campuses of Virginia Military Institute and Washington and Lee University.

During the three-day event, award winners have the opportunity to explore a broad range of national security issues with senior military leaders. Army Chief of Staff Gen. George W. Casey and Secretary of the Army Pete Geren are scheduled to speak at the event.

“I am excited about the opportunity to represent my school among the nation’s finest cadets. I hope this experience will be as beneficial as my four years of ROTC have been,” Jordan said.

Jordan is scheduled to be commissioned this August as an Army Infantry lieutenant.

“Cadet Jordan has excelled as both a student and an Army ROTC cadet,” said Lt. Col. Dan Clark, UA professor of military science. “In addition to his ROTC duties as an Operations Officer and former Cadet Battalion Commander, he is an officer in his fraternity, Alpha Kappa Lambda, and frequently appears on the Dean’s List,” Clark added.

The Marshall ROTC Seminar is in its 32nd year of existence. It is named in honor of George C. Marshall, who served as Army Chief of Staff during World War II. Subsequent to concluding his military career, Marshall served as Secretary of State and later as Secretary of Defense during the Truman Administration. His efforts to help the economies of Europe recover from WWII earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953.
