EVENTS, ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

UA Scholarship Date Auction will be Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in The Zone at Bryant Denny Stadium. A variety of students, selected from major student organizations on campus, will be auctioned to the highest bidder for a group dinner date. Proceeds will be raffled off to the students in attendance in the form of $500 scholarships. More information: James Fowler.

Join friends at a Mardi Gras Ball Benefit Feb. 17 from 8 p.m.-midnight in the Zone. Tickets are $10 for an individual and $15 for a couple when purchased in advance. Tickets will be $5 more at the door. Proceeds will benefit Tuscaloosa’s One Place. Music will be provided by The Birmingham Seven. Attire is semi-formal. More information: Margaret Raleigh.

African-American History of Tuscaloosa Tours will be Feb. 22 at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 pm. Tours will meet at Foster Auditorium. Learn about the African-American heritage of Tuscaloosa in this hour-long walking and bus tour. Tickets are $5 and must be purchased in advance through the SGA office. The final event for “Crimson is… Integrity. Celebrating the Capstone Creed” will be Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 11:45 a.m. in Ferguson Ballroom. President Robert E. Witt, Coach Nick Saban, and Vice Provost Mark Nelson will speak. Doors open at 11:20 a.m. More information: Lowell K. Davis at 348-8404.

Singer, author and producer Chuck D will present a program Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Ballroom. Tickets are required for admittance. The Ferguson Center will host the fourth annual Hip Hop Summit: “Expressing the Nation” Feb. 16-19. Events, which are free and open to the public, will focus on and celebrate hip hop’s influence on different countries. The department of theatre and dance presents the Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre’s spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17-19 and 5:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in Morgan Auditorium. Tickets: $15 for adults, $13 for UA faculty, staff and senior citizens, and $10 for students. ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

The National Alumni Association is accepting nominations for the 2009 Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Awards. The awards are based on faculty members’ commitment to teaching and the impact they have had on students through the teaching and learning process. STUDENT AFFAIRS

Applications for SGA Executive Office and Senate are now available online. The deadline to apply is Feb. 11. Questions regarding the campaign process or forms can be sent to sgaelections@sa.ua.edu.

The SGA Student Judicial Board is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 year. The board is seeking dependable, punctual, fair-minded undergraduate, graduate and law students. The Board adjudicates cases arising from student non-academic misconduct and parking violations. All applicants must be available during fall and spring semesters to attend meetings every Tuesday at 6 p.m. Applications are due Feb. 24 and can be found on the SGA Web site. The Pre-Law Student Association meets every Tuesday at 6 p.m. in 121 Bidgood Hall. Anyone interested in attending law school is invited to come interact with other students who share the same interests. More information: Johana Bucci.

The Elliot Society has extended its deadline for applications until Feb. 16. The Elliot Society is dedicated to social justice and membership into the society is one of the highest honors at UA. Any current student is eligible to apply. More information: Carl A. Elliot Society or Lorie Box.

The Washington Center will host an information session on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in 205 Gorgas Library. Kim Franklin from The Washington Center will be on campus to discuss internship opportunities in Washington, D.C. All majors are welcome. More information: Tiffany Goodin at 348-5848.

Applications for the College of Arts and Sciences Ambassadors are now available for the 2009–2010 academic year. The 25 ambassadors represent the college in a variety of recruitment and development capacities. Applications are available online and are due to the reception desk at Clark Hall by 4 p.m. Feb. 18. Looking for Off-Campus Housing? Anyone interested in moving off campus next year is encouraged to attend one of the information sessions to find out what you need to know before signing a lease. Professional Business Etiquette: Receptions and Networking/Office Protocols will be offered Feb. 17 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Game Room. This session will help participants with introductions, networking and conversation skills. It also will cover some strategies for success in the office environment. Seating is limited.
