TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — A finale event for The University of Alabama’s Capstone Creed Week will be held Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 11:45 a.m. in the Ferguson Center ballroom on campus.
The Capstone Creed, developed in 2000 by the Student Leader’s Council, is a reflection of the core values that sustain the UA community. The theme for this year’s Capstone Creed Week is “Crimson is Integrity: Celebrating the Capstone Creed.”
As part of the finale, UA football coach Nick Saban will be giving a short speech reinforcing the significance of integrity and the creed, as will UA President Robert E. Witt, and Dr. Mark Nelson, vice president for student affairs and vice provost.
Cason Kirby, student government association president, and Todd Raines, chief justice of the University-wide academic honor council, will be on hand to open the ceremony.

Each year, as part of this important week of events, the University honors individuals and/or organizations whose lives and contributions to life at the Capstone echo the values of the Creed. These honors come in the form of a special award called the “Capstone Hero” award.
The following individuals and one organization were nominated and selected as 2009 Capstone Heroes and will be recognized at a ceremony and reception on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 4 p.m. in 205 Gorgas Library:
The Kappa Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
Carolyn Fulmer, program assistant for the student government association
Jessica Garcia of Tampa, Fla., a senior majoring in English and Spanish
Patty Ann Green of Columbus, Miss., a senior majoring in communications studies
Robert Harris of Alexander City, a senior majoring in political science and history
Elizabeth Jones of Birmingham, a junior majoring in economics and psychology
Brice Miller, assistant director for the Crossroads Community Center
Lindsey Mullen of Sheffield, a senior majoring in interdisciplinary studies
Milton Nettles of Monroeville, a junior majoring in chemical and biological engineering
Dr. Margaret Purcell, manager for financial affairs grants
Ian Sams of Johnson City, Tenn., a sophomore majoring in political science
Erin White of Huntsville, a junior majoring in finance
