2006 Homecoming Queen Named at UA

homecoming_queen06_012xTUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Lauren Burch of Fairfield, Conn., was named The University of Alabama Homecoming Queen for 2006 on Friday, Oct. 27 during UA’s annual Homecoming Pep Rally on campus.

Burch is a senior at UA majoring in marketing.

The following students were chosen to be members of the 2006 UA Homecoming Court:

Whitney Bailey, a senior from Fordyce, Ark., majoring in nursing

Kori Mosakowski, a senior from Weaver majoring in studio art

Melinda Thomason, a senior from Madison majoring in interior design

Sheree Woods, a senior from Florence majoring in dance and communicative disorders.

UA students selected the queen in a general campus election held Tuesday, Oct. 24. Some 3,838 students voted in this year’s election. The queen will be crowned during halftime of the homecoming football game between Alabama and Florida International on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The Homecoming Choreography Contest took place Thursday, Oct. 26 with winners: 1st place- Phi Mu, 2nd place-Pi Beta Phi, 3rd place-Alpha Omicron Pi.

Lawn Decorations winners included: Greek organizations 1st place-Delta Zeta, 2nd place-Alpha Delta Pi, 3rd place-Kappa Alpha Theta; Other organizations 1st place-Computer Based Honors Program, 2nd place – Arts and Sciences, 3rd place-Alabama Student Society of Communication Arts.

Paint the Town Red competition winners included: 1st place-Delta Zeta, 2nd place-Sigma Alpha Theta, 3rd place -Computer Based Honors Program.

Battle of the Bands winner was The Upside.

Dodge ball competition winners included: 1st place- Alpha Delta Pi, 2nd place- Zeta Tau Alpha, 3rd place-Alpha Omicron Pi.

Basketball competition winners included: 1st place- Delta Zeta, 2nd place -Alpha Omicron Pi, 3rd place -Alpha Delta Pi.
