UA Instructor Wins Accolade for TV Musical Program

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Joey Goodsell, an instructor in the department of telecommunications and film at The University of Alabama, recently received a national Accolade Award for Excellence for a television musical performance program featuring Nashville recording artist Webb Wilder.

The program, “Tough It Out! Webb Wilder Live,” is a collaborative effort between Goodsell and Doug Smart, an assistant professor at the State University of New York – Oswego. The production of the performance took place in August 2005 at Workplay in Birmingham, and the DVD is slated for a retail release later this month. An hour-long version of the show is being distributed nationally by National Educational Television Association and will air on PBS affiliates around the country this fall.

The Accolade Competition recognizes professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity. This national competition draws entries from a cross-section of Hollywood studios, independent film and television producers, and corporate, educational, government and public relations professionals. Entries are screened by award-winning, senior-level judges against a high standard of excellence.

The College of Communication and Information Sciences at UA is among the most prestigious communication colleges in the nation. C&IS consistently is ranked among the top 10 in number of doctoral degrees awarded and in many of its research programs. C&IS graduates have won four of the six Pulitzer Prizes awarded to UA alumni, and the forensics and debate squad, housed within the College, has garnered 14 national championships.
