UA Faculty and Staff Campaign Raises $5 Million

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The faculty and staff of The University of Alabama have made a major commitment to the University’s future by pledging $5 million in support of University initiatives. Included in the total is a $300,000 gift from UA President Robert E. Witt.

The majority of the donations went into the general scholarship fund, but employees were able to designate their gifts to specific scholarship categories or other University efforts.

“Forty percent of our faculty and staff members, including our retired members, chose to make a commitment to the future of our great University and we are grateful to each of them,” said Thomas Martz, UA vice president for advancement. “We’re also pleased that the leadership of our University, including deans of the colleges and the executive staff, has made such a generous personal investment in its success.”

Witt’s gift will support four $50,000 student scholarships in the College of Engineering, Capstone College of Nursing, College of Human Environmental Sciences and the College of Arts and Sciences’ School of Music. The remaining $100,000 contribution will be devoted to a variety of uses including scholarship support, RISE, Crossing Points and the department of athletics. The gift to athletics will be $25,000 to endow a football locker in honor of Director of Athletics Mal Moore.
