UA Donates to Hurricane Victims

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama will donate to The American Red Cross, $1 for every ticket sold to this weekend’s Alabama-Middle Tennessee football game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

“That comes to a cash donation of approximately $83,000,” said Director of Athletics Mal Moore. “We have been witness to a tragedy of epic proportions and the athletic department and the university stand ready to help however we can.”

The athletics department also donated the remaining 140 tickets to Saturday’s game to those evacuees who are housed at the Student Recreation Center.

UA fans are reminded that the Red Cross will collect cash donations before and after Saturday’s game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The athletics department, as a member of the Southeastern Conference, is already participating in a $1 million donation to various Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

Alabama fans can also donate to the American Red Cross relief efforts on its website, www.redcross.org, or calling 1-800-HELP NOW (435-7669).
